The report provides the first official global assessment of progress towards one of the 23 goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, Goal 3.
It sets out the global commitment to protect and conserve 30% of the Earth's lands and waters by 2030. In addition, elements of the target require that in situ conservation be scaled up in a way that benefits both nature and local communities.
Each chapter of the report is devoted to an element of Objective 3. In this way, the document assesses progress not only towards 30% coverage, but also focuses on the scope of other important elements such as improving the quality of protected and conserved areas around the world.
