30×30 Progress Tracker
Detalles
SkyTruth's 30x30 Progress Tracker is a tool developed in collaboration with the Bloomberg Ocean Initiative, aimed at supporting the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) goal of protecting at least 30% of marine and terrestrial ecosystems by 2030.
Today, 8.3% of the world's oceans and 17.2% of the earth's surface are protected. Wildlife populations (mammals, birds, fish, and other species) have declined by nearly 70 percent since 1970, with more than 44,000 species threatened with extinction.
Protecting 30% of the world's terrestrial and ocean habitats by 2030 will help these threatened species recover and survive, preserving them for future generations.
This tracker allows monitoring progress in the conservation of key areas, especially marine, providing accessible and real-time data to help governments and organizations identify current protected areas, as well as areas in need of greater protection. In addition, the tool combines information from various sources to show critical habitats, improving transparency and accountability in the implementation of global conservation goals.
The Progress Tracker allows users to understand progress at the global and national levels at a glance, including accessible statistics and interactive data visualizations. Not only does the platform allow users to see the location of currently protected and conserved areas, but it also allows them to overlay the location of key habitats and areas recommended by expert analysis as critical areas to protect for biodiversity.
Additionally, the tool provides users with the ability to dynamically illustrate the effects of proposed regions on progress toward 30x30 and quickly generate information about the proposed protected area from disparate data sources, including area recommendations based on 30x30 research.
