The TRADE Hub has been a five-year multidisciplinary research project (2018-2024) and has been funded by the UK Global Challenges Research Fund (UKRI GCRF). This research has made progress in the supply chains of agricultural products, bushmeat and wildlife trade.
The Hub's network of experts worked with governments, the private sector, civil society and farmers to apply their findings and make a real-world impact. The report stresses how international trade has allowed the economic growth of many countries around the world but also highlights that the impacts have not always been positive for people and nature, giving as an example the case of soy production in Brazil; being responsible for the high rates of deforestation in biodiversity hotspots such as the Amazon and the Cerrado. In addition, the social and economic benefits of soybeans are not evenly distributed among the different producing regions of Brazil.
