This report assesses the benefits derived from five restoration projects in Europe and reveals how degraded ecosystems are being restored thanks to the efforts of organisations, local communities and governments. Each location faces its own challenges, but the tactics employed in all five locations are similar. More importantly, they work.

Ecosystem restoration plays an important role in achieving global and national goals to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Despite all the expected benefits, restoration has been slow on the ground. It has been difficult to launch new projects and expand existing ones to larger areas with greater capacity and funding. This document aims to help accelerate much-needed restoration work across Europe by providing inspiring examples of the many benefits that restoration can bring.
