This consultation paper from the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) contains a proposal for voluntary and complementary guidance for financial institutions to integrate nature considerations into planning for the transition to net neutrality.
Under the title "Nature in Net-Zero Transitions Plans", it builds on and complements the voluntary recommendations of GFANZ's net-neutral transition plan framework. It aims to provide financial institutions committed to the greenhouse gas emissions netting target with guidance on the use of nature-related levers to support their implementation of the net-zero target.
Of the more than 700 financial institutions that are part of Net-Zero Alliances, two-thirds have voluntarily decided to lay out their individual plans for transition across the five themes of the GFANZ framework, and half of them have provided details on the 10 components of the GFANZ framework.
By expanding the established framework, the document aims to help accelerate awareness of nature as a fundamental tool to contribute effectively to the fight against climate change. A successful economic transition requires recognising the inextricable link between climate and nature: there are no net zero emissions without nature.
The consultation has been developed by GFANZ and its Net-Zero Transition Plan Framework working group, with Generation IM and Aviva as co-directors.
