EU Global Gateway Launch of the global Team Europe Initiative on Deforestation-free Value Chains
Detalles
| The EU and its Member States have launched Team Europe's Global Initiative on Deforestation-Free Value Chains at the Spanish Pavilion at COP 28. Cooperation within this Global Initiative includes the Sustainable Agriculture for Forest Ecosystems (SAFE) project, which is currently being implemented in Brazil, Ecuador, Indonesia and Zambia, with two additional components to be launched in Vietnam and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In addition, the European Commission is establishing a Technical Facility on Deforestation-Free Value Chains, which will be a flexible, on-demand mechanism to assist partner countries with technical expertise in requirements such as geolocation, land-use mapping, and traceability systems. Upon launch, the Global Initiative will establish a Team Europe Hub for Deforestation-Free Value Chains, which will provide information to partner countries, as well as knowledge management and coordination of existing and future EU and Member State projects on deforestation-free forests and value chains. Objectives: Launch of Team Europe's Global Initiative on Deforestation-Free Value Chains and reaffirmation of the joint commitment of the EU and its Member States to support partner countries and producers to enable deforestation-free value chains through inclusive partnerships in a Team Europe approach. |
