| The Joint Declaration on Climate, Nature and People underscores the crucial need to address climate change, biodiversity loss and land degradation in a unified, synergistic and holistic way. Based on available science and evidence, the statement highlights that an integrated approach is critical to achieving the short- and long-term goals set by the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Developed collaboratively by the COP28 Presidencies of the UNFCCC and COP15 of the Convention on Biological Diversity, together with a group of selected international partnerships, initiatives and coalitions, the Joint Declaration is positioned as a voluntary, non-binding political declaration, which seeks to mobilize support and enhance awareness and capacities to achieve the goals and synergies between the Paris Agreement and the Kunming-Montreal Agreement. In addition, it highlights the intersectionality of priorities between climate change, biodiversity, and land restoration and management efforts; and the need for multi-stakeholder collaboration, with particular emphasis on the inclusion of indigenous peoples, local communities, women, girls, youth and other vulnerable communities in the achievement of these goals. |
