Accelerating corporate ambition and preparedness toward science-based targets for nature. Actionable insights from WBCSD’s SBTN Preparer

Detalles

Setting goals of nature is an essential lever for corporate transformation and transition planning. The Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) methodology for enterprises was published in 2023 and updated in 2024.

This report brings together the main insights and lessons learned from the WBCSD SBTN Preparation Group and the official SBTN pilot, which ran from 2023 to 2024.

This report:
  • It brings together the successes and challenges experienced by members in learning about or engaging in science-based nature goals.
  • It proposes a provisional and differentiated approach to setting nature goals that a company can develop over time, allowing companies to take responsibility for their impacts on nature, thereby accelerating actions to address them.
  • It is primarily aimed at any stakeholder active in the goal-setting space of nature, whether framing goals or supporting companies in setting goals. It can also inspire and inform sustainability professionals who drive your company's approach to nature.
The practical insights are based on the experiences of 12 WBCSD members in our SBTN preparation group, as well as 8 WBCSD members in the SBTN target validation pilot.
The WBCSD SBTN Preparation Group was conducted in collaboration with Quantis, as part of a broader work on action for nature at the WBCSD. The WBCSD and Quantis will continue to collaborate with the SBTN and companies to drive continuous improvement of corporate nature goal frameworks and the development of differentiated value chain approaches, aligned with priority actions and metrics.
