CONAMA gave voice to the action of SMEs in biodiversity
The CONAMA business and biodiversity working group is one of the most senior of the congress and this year it has focused on the ‘Analysis of the potential contribution of SMEs to the conservation of the natural environment’. CONAMA, in collaboration with the Global Nature Foundation and the consulting firm Biodiversity Node, pursues with this focus the objective of including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the care of biodiversity and the ecological transition.
The IEEB has been collaborating with the “Business and Biodiversity” Working Group of CONAMA since 2014. On this occasion, we have identified the calls that can help with this objective and we have collaborated in the identification of success stories, which will be reflected in the final document.
In the session of June 1, there were three discussion tables, the first where the results of the group were presented, which consisted of the analysis of a survey on companies and biodiversity and the resulting action plan. Victoria Pérez, coordinator of the Green Economy and Employment Area at the FB, presented the novelties in calls from the Biodiversity Foundation that can help in these objectives.
On the other hand, a panel of experiences allowed us to learn about good practices in business and biodiversity.
Finally, Jorge Marquínez García, Director General of Biodiversity, Forests and Desertification of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Cristina Rivero Fernández, Director of the Department of Industry, Energy, Environment and Climate of CEOE and Germán Granda, Director of Forética, discussed how companies can improve their understanding of biodiversity.
The WG session left a number of headlines, such as:
-
The need to take advantage of a favourable moment for biodiversity with the Green Deal and the public investment of the recovery plan, as well as with the major international milestones after COP15.
-
The boost that large companies and the financial sector can play, as drivers of the economic system in the green recovery.
-
The importance of citizen/consumer action to support this ecological transition.
