Summit of the Future

The Future Summit is a high-level event that brings together world leaders to forge a new international consensus to improve the present and safeguard the future. This is a unique opportunity to restore eroded trust and demonstrate that international cooperation can respond effectively to the challenges that are currently being faced, as well as those that have emerged in recent years or are on the horizon.

The objective of the Summit of the Future is the same as that of numerous existing agreements and commitments, from the Charter of the United Nations to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the 2030 Agenda, the Paris Agreement, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, or the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, among many others. But the question is not “what”, but “how”: how can we best cooperate to realize the aspirations and achieve the aforementioned goals? How do we respond to the needs of the present while preparing for the challenges of the future?

In September, world leaders will gather at the United Nations to adopt the Pact for the Future, which will include as annexes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations.
