The monitoring and outlook assessment, published jointly by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre and the EEA, aims to regularly check on Member States' progress towards the EU's zero pollution targets every two years.
This second edition will also serve as a basis for future policies in support of the goal of zero pollution: reducing pollution to the point where it no longer poses a risk to human health and the environment by 2050.
Pollution is a key driver of biodiversity loss and climate change, contributing to the 'triple planetary crisis', where each environmental threat can compound the impact of the others.
