Supply chain disruptions: Are concerns about the EU’s new deforestation regulation justified?

Detalles

Deforestation is a global problem linked mainly to the demand for and production of goods, such as cocoa and coffee.

Agriculture is responsible for 90% of global deforestation. Every two seconds, an area equivalent to the size of a football field is lost.

The European Union is one of the main contributors to this problem. To address the problem of deforestation, the EU has established a list of products closely associated with deforestation: cocoa, coffee, rubber, palm oil, soy, beef and timber.

From December 2024, importers and exporters trading with the EU must demonstrate that these goods, or their derived products, do not originate from recently deforested areas or cause forest degradation.

While many consider the EU's new deforestation law (EUDR) a milestone, others have raised doubts. Euronews has produced this video in which everything you need to know about deforestation and the new regulation is explained in a very didactic and entertaining way.
