International Conference on Wetland Conservation and Management in the Face of Climate Change

The “International Conference on the Conservation and Management of Wetlands in the Face of Climate Change” will be held in Valencia, designated European Green Capital 2024. This event, which will take place from 14 to 16 February 2024 at the “La Petxina” Complex, will address future challenges and opportunities in wetland conservation, with a special focus on climate change adaptation and mitigation and the promotion of biodiversity.

The conference will focus on threats to wetlands, their key role in climate change, biodiversity conservation, governance and green employability. Special attention will be paid to the Mediterranean Region and the Albufera de Valencia, highlighting the importance of these ecosystems in climate regulation and their value from a natural and cultural point of view. Challenges such as biodiversity loss, wetland degradation, and the crucial role of wetlands in mitigating climate change will be discussed.

Program:
• 14 February 2024: Sessions on the evolution of the conservation status of the Albufera, management and restoration of wetlands, and presentations on “Wetlands and Climate Change” and “Wetlands and Biodiversity”.
• 15 February 2024: Sessions focusing on wetland restoration, threats to wetlands, governance, social dimension, and the relationship between wetlands, green employment and eco-entrepreneurship.
• 16 February 2024: Visit to the Albufera Natural Park.
