Summary for policymakers of the methodological assessment of the diverse values and valuation of nature
Detalles
IPBES launches the Summary for Policymakers of the Values Assessment and points out that one of the main reasons behind the current global biodiversity crisis is the dominant tendency in political and economic decisions to focus on short-term profits and economic growth, at the expense of considering nature's multiple values. The report provides tools for governments and other stakeholders (e.g. NGOs, the business sector, the media, academia) to help recognise and take into account the diversity of nature's values in decision-making. In turn, the report assesses and provides information on how to apply the more than 50 valuation methods that currently exist to estimate the diversity of nature's values.
