| Nature-based solutions (NBS) as infrastructure are not new. There are many examples of large public works projects and projects led by conservation organizations that integrate nature to provide infrastructure services and provide infrastructure and bring environmental and social benefits. But what is new is the reflection on how to transfer that experience from private companies to leverage private finance and integrate nature-based solutions at scale nature-based solutions in the construction of future infrastructure or in the modernization of existing ones. It is estimated that emerging markets will need to invest $2 trillion a year in infrastructure over the next decade92 . Reimagine how infrastructure can be built with nature to reduce the footprint of traditional grey infrastructure and generate and generate additional benefits for businesses, the economy, the climate, biodiversity and the community. This catalog provides examples of nature-based solutions that private infrastructure companies can integrate into their core business operations and articulates the business case for doing so. The aim of the catalogue is to explore the business advantages of nature-based solutions and to initiate a dialogue with infrastructure companies to identify opportunities and potential projects. The catalog will evolve over time as the market for nature-based solutions for infrastructure projects develops and matures. |
