COP19 on Climate Change

The COP29 on Climate Change of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November 2024.

Main Objectives
– Climate Finance: This COP is expected to be known as the “COP of finance”, with a focus on aligning financial contributions with global needs. This includes the New Collective Quantified Target (NCQG) and fund capitalisation for loss and damage.
– Carbon Markets: Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which could improve carbon markets, will be discussed.
– Adaptation and Just Transition: Commitments will be sought to finance adaptation measures and a just transition to renewable energy, especially in lower-income states.
– Human Rights: The conference will also place a strong emphasis on human rights in the context of climate change.
